Alumni Game Letter - Info

Bearcats Soccer Alumni:

Just wanted to touch base with you and let you know that we have kicked off our 2008 high school soccer season at Brookland-Cayce HS. Our biennial Alumni Game will be held on Saturday, February 16 at The Cage at 1:00 p.m. We hope that all former alumni will make it back to BCHS to participate in this event. Don't worry if you feel "too over the hill" to play in the match, just come and be a part of the atmosphere. I think that the recent graduates of 2005-06-07 should give us ample "young players" to battle the Varsity, but I know of some old guys that have been rounding themselves back into shape in order to compete once again.

I am ordering t-shirts for the event from Lesesne Industries and need to get them some numbers ASAP. The t-shirts will be ash gray and 100% cotton. The cost will be $10 per shirt. If you would like a t-shirt, please reply to this email as soon as possible. We also have car magnets for sale at $5 each and are a great way to support our soccer program. You can pay at the Alumni match, but if sending a check, please make it payable to BCHS and include your phone number, address, and driver's license number.

Special thanks to Will Eudy, '95 (will@scsoccer.com); Alex Koutrakos, '94 (alexk94@sc.rr.com); and Troy Lesesne, '01 (lesesnet@cofc.edu) for their efforts in putting together an Alumni/Varsity Team dinner/get-together for Friday, February 15. Details will be posted on our website at www.scsoccer.com/bcsoccer soon. This will be a pretty neat event and will feature a video presentation of the last two decades of Bearcats Soccer.

As for the Varsity, we have a very talented varsity group with a goal of winning the Class 3A State Championship! Our season officially kicked off Monday morning, January 28 at 12:05 a.m. on The Cage! Our opening session was covered by WLTX and featured on Monday's 6/11 p.m. editions. Pretty exciting stuff for the boys and we even had our season "blessed" by Cayce United Methodist Church pastor Michael Henderson (a former soccer player at Brevard College in NC) who led us in prayer prior to kickoff.

For those that don't know, I update our Bearcat Soccer Blog quite frequently during the season and this is the best place for the latest information on Bearcats Soccer. The link is -- http://bc-soccer.blogspot.com/.

In other notes, we have had more than 70 prospective players (7th-12th grades) come out for the first two days of tryouts at Granby Education Center (old Busbee MS) and we should have around 60 kids competing on our B-Team, JV, and Varsity sides this Spring! We are extremely excited about the turnout and the growing nature of the B-C soccer program.

Remember to check out our website for schedules and such. I look forward to seeing each of you in the next couple of weeks!

2006 WLTX Report - Soccer Team Without A Home

For some reason, I never saw this broadcast clip on WLTX-19 until today while trying to access the Midnight Madness clip from Monday, January 28th.

It was a terrible shame that the boys and girls of the Class of 2006 had to endure field calamities in 2003 and 2006 at The Cage!

I just felt it was necessary to catalog this clip in our blog for posterity's sake.

Summer Soccer Camp Dates Set - RLSA @ Wofford College

Brookland-Cayce High School boys soccer team will attend Team Camp at the Ralph Lundy Soccer Academy June 29-July 3 on the campus of Wofford College. For more details on RLSA, please visit www.ralphlundy.com.

Camp will be available for all rising 7th to 12th graders at BCHS for 2008-2009 school year. All players planning to play in 2009 are strongly encouraged to attend camp. This is a great time for learning and team bonding. Paperwork required for team camp is included in the team handbook.

The cost of camp is $490 per player. A $100 deposit per camper is due on March 1 to Coach Heise to reserve your place with the team. The checks should be made payable to Ralph Lundy Soccer Academy. If you would rather pay via credit card, you may do so online at the link provided above.

Transportation to and from camp will be provided by Lexington Two District Bus from BCHS.

Midnight Madness Kicks Off 2008 Season

The B-C boys soccer program kicked off the 2008 season with an exciting Midnight Madness at 12:05 a.m. on Monday, January 28th despite temperatures in the low 30s! There was literally frost on the field at midnight.

This is the first time since the 2001 season that the Bearcats have had a midnight kickoff to the season. The session was covered by WLTX-19's Reggie Anderson and the clip was shown on the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. news on Monday evening. Click here for the link to the video broadcast.

Special thanks to Cayce United Methodist Church pastor Mike Henderson for his attendance and "blessing our 2008 season and players/coaches". Kudos to those parents as well that braved the freezing temperatures in support of our boys.

Troy Lesesne Named Asst. Head Coach at Charleston

Charleston, S.C. -- The College of Charleston men’s soccer team named Troy Lesesne its assistant head coach following the resignation of Associate Head Coach Ralph Polson, it was announced today.

“Troy’s dedication and commitment to the Cougars has been integral to the quality of our program for the last seven years,” said Head Coach Ralph Lundy. “He has all the abilities to continue to make our program one of the best.”

Lesesne, a former draft pick of the United Soccer League’s Charleston Battery, has served as the Cougars’ assistant coach for three years. In that capacity, he was charged with managing key elements of the program including academics, coordinating recruitment, alumni relations, scheduling, budgeting and equipment.

During his two seasons with the Battery, Lesesne saw action in 38 games and recorded three assists. Prior to being drafted, Lesesne was a standout at midfield for the Cougars. His most notable season came in 2004 when he was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas All-South and All-American teams. Throughout his four years, Lesesne helped lead Charleston to 47 wins and a birth in the second round of the NCAA College Cup, following the capture of the Southern Conference championship in 2004.

In addition to his duties at CofC, Lesesne serves as an assistant coach for the 1993 South Carolina Olympic Development Program. He is also a trainer for the 1991 and 1995 Mount Pleasant Soccer Club boy’s teams.

Lesesne’s promotion came after Polson accepted a position as head coach for the Wofford men’s soccer team. A native of West Columbia, S.C. (Brookland-Cayce High School, 2001), Lesesne earned a bachelor’s in corporate communication from the College of Charleston in 2004. He is currently pursuing a master’s in communication from CofC.
