B-C Edges Dreher in Shootout

Columbia, SC -- #10 Brookland-Cayce rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to down 3A arch-rival #8 Dreher 2-1 via a penalty kick shootout at venerable Memorial Stadium to improve to 4-2-1 overall and 3-0 in the regular season. The Blue Devils struck first just 12:33 into the match as sophomore Byron Quintoa tallied a strike from 23 yards out to stake Dreher to an early 1-0 advantage. The Bearcats played a much more inspired second half and were rewarded in the 57th minute as freshman Taylor Lewis netted a flick from junior Robby Setzler off a senior Peter Koutrakos throw-in to level the match. The teams battled to a draw the remainder of the match and the shootout heroics were left to senior netminder JC Gypin, who registered two crucial saves and was aided by a first-kick miss and three consecutive Bearcat conversions (Miguel Estrada Lopez, Tim Duzan, and Setzler) to give B-C the vital early season victory on away soil.
